About
Serenity are a symphonic power metal band from Tyrol, Austria, who have built their whole identity around history. Seriously, their catalogue reads like a syllabus: Sir Francis Drake, Marco Polo, Galileo, Beethoven, Napoleon, all subjects of their songs. Formed in 2001 and properly stabilised with a new lineup in 2004, they signed to Napalm Records and have since put out eight studio albums that blend melodic, symphonic and progressive metal into something distinctly their own. The band's name comes from the spacecraft in the sci fi series Firefly, which tells you something about their sensibility. Outside of music, the members are a genuinely eclectic bunch: vocalist Georg Neuhauser holds a doctorate in historical science and lectures at the University of Innsbruck, bassist Fabio D'Amore is a sound engineer and music teacher who also fronts Mirrormaze, and drummer Andreas Schipflinger works in cochlea implant research. One of the more academically credentialled metal bands you will come across.
