About

Sleaford Mods describe their own work as 'electronic munt minimalist punk hop rants for the working class', and honestly that covers it pretty well. The Nottingham duo of vocalist Jason Williamson and producer Andrew Fearn built their reputation on abrasive, loop driven tracks that tear into unemployment, capitalism, celebrity culture and the grinding realities of austerity Britain, all delivered in Williamson's unmistakable East Midlands sprechgesang. His vocal style draws comparisons to everyone from Mark E. Smith to Mike Skinner, while Fearn's productions are deliberately raw, built from purgatorial bass loops, functional beats and the odd cheap keyboard riff. Over a run of albums including Key Markets, English Tapas, Eton Alive and Spare Ribs, they have kept the formula lean and the anger sharp. Along the way they have collaborated with the Prodigy on 'Ibiza', contributed to a Leftfield album, and scored a UK vinyl singles chart number one with 'Mork n Mindy'. Their twelfth album UK Grim arrived in 2023, and in 2022 Williamson even turned up acting in the Peaky Blinders series finale.
