Formed in Helsingborg, Sweden in 1995 under the name Inferior Breed, Soilwork went on to become one of the defining acts in melodic death metal, carving out a sound that mixes crushing riffs with cleaner melodic passages and vocal hooks. Their early break came through a chance encounter with Michael Amott of Arch Enemy, who handed their demo to Listenable Records, kicking off a career that eventually moved to Nuclear Blast and spanned twelve studio albums. Alongside In Flames and Dark Tranquillity, they helped shape what the Gothenburg adjacent scene sounded like in the early 2000s. Albums like Natural Born Chaos, Figure Number Five, and Stabbing the Drama pushed them into wider international territory, with US tours alongside Killswitch Engage and headliners like Cannibal Corpse, plus a spot on the 2005 Ozzfest second stage. Their 2022 record Övergivenheten showed they were still operating at full force, and full album streams of their back catalogue have been keeping their older material firmly in the conversation.
