Montreal's Stars have been quietly one of Canada's most emotionally precise indie acts since forming around 2000, building a sound that moved from electronic pop on their debut Nightsongs toward the lush, rock rooted arrangements that defined albums like Set Yourself on Fire and In Our Bedroom After the War. The band, which grew out of Toronto but took real shape in Montreal, layers dual lead vocals from Torquil Campbell and Amy Millan over dense, nuanced production, earning a style their fans describe as beautiful, eloquent indie pop. Their songs have turned up in everything from The O.C. and Gossip Girl to the films Like Crazy and Tanner Hall, giving them a cultural footprint well beyond their Juno and Polaris nominations. The North arrived in 2012, No One Is Lost in 2014, and There Is No Love in Fluorescent Light in 2017, the last produced by Peter Katis and released on Last Gang Records. Their ninth album, From Capelton Hill, came out in 2022, showing no real signs of slowing down.
