About
The Billy Joel Experience is built around the idea that classical music runs through everything Billy Joel ever wrote. Bandleader Alexander Broussard decided to make that tension visible by placing his pop rock band directly opposite a string quartet, letting the two forces compete and complement each other in the same show. To pull it off, he brought in La Finesse, a string quartet from Germany, turning the project into a genuine international collaboration. The result is a live show that plays with the duality at the heart of Joel's catalogue, the grand piano balladry sitting right next to the orchestral pull, with neither side giving ground easily. The combination makes for something more interesting than a straightforward tribute act. The interplay between the band and the quartet shifts the familiar songs into new shapes, underlining just how much of Joel's songwriting was rooted in classical tradition all along.
