About
Willy Vlautin, the novelist and songwriter behind Richmond Fontaine, built The Delines around one central idea: Amy Boone's voice. World weary, vulnerable, and utterly lived in, her vocals give Vlautin's working class character studies an emotional weight that's hard to shake. The Portland band describes itself as a retro country soul act, and that's about right, somewhere in the territory of late night Americana with pedal steel, keyboards, and a trumpet that became a signature sound on their second proper album. Their 2014 debut Colfax scored an 87 on Metacritic and introduced listeners to their brand of plainspoken heartbreak. After a serious car accident sidelined Boone in 2016, the band came back with The Imperial in 2019, which hit number one in the UK Americana charts. The Sea Drift followed in 2022 and topped year end polls in numerous countries, including Heaven magazine in the Netherlands. Since then the discography has kept growing, with The Night Always Comes in 2023 and Mr. Luck and Ms. Doom in 2025.
