About
The Funeral Portrait took their name from an Opeth song, which tells you a lot about the mix they're going for: emotional hardcore, punk rock and a heavy dose of musical theater. The Atlanta band started out as Cosmoscope, then rebranded in 2014 and went on to build a whole mythology around themselves. Their videos introduce "Icon" characters like The Alien, The Angel and The Blood Mother, and their live shows, which they call Devotion Ceremonies, are staged to match. The lyrics deal with mental health, depression and anger, and they're open about wanting their fanbase, the Coffin Crew, to be a safe space for LGBTQ+ listeners. Signed to Better Noise Music, they've worked with Bert McCracken of The Used, Spencer Charnas of Ice Nine Kills and Ivan Moody of Five Finger Death Punch. Their song Suffocate City became their first number one on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Airplay chart, and they've opened for Shinedown, Skillet and Marilyn Manson.
