About
Few Belgian bands can claim to have shaped punk the way The Kids did. Founded in Antwerp in 1976, the band built their reputation on raw energy and no nonsense songwriting, with frontman Ludo Mariman finding in punk the perfect outlet for his voice. Their 1978 self titled debut album left a mark on European punk history that is still felt today, and Het Nieuwsblad once called them the only genuine punk group Belgium has ever produced. Over the years they shared stages with the Sex Pistols, Buzzcocks and the New York Dolls at Lokerse Feesten, which gives you a sense of the company they keep. After splitting in 1986 they reunited a decade later, responding to demand from punk fans across the world, and have kept going ever since. Their catalogue runs to five studio albums and a live album, with the live release Flabbergasted capturing their relentless stage energy for Belgian audiences. Since 2008 the band has toured regularly beyond Europe, taking their sound to the United States, Mexico, Japan and Turkey. Loud, fast and unpretentious, that formula has not changed.
