About

Named after a cargo vessel Jeff Massey spotted on Lake Michigan, The Steepwater Band have been hauling blues soaked rock out of Chicago since 1998. The core trio of Massey on guitar and vocals, Joe Winters on drums, and Tod Bowers on bass started by tearing through classic electric Chicago blues before pivoting to originals, and they never really left that raw, road worn sound behind. Their 2004 album Dharmakaya, produced by Sean Slade and Paul Kolderie, the duo behind records for Radiohead and the Pixies, marked a serious step up, and the band kept building from there. Over the years they have shared stages with Gov't Mule, the Doobie Brothers, Cheap Trick, and John Mayall, and logged serious mileage touring Europe, particularly Spain. Their song "Collision" from the 2006 album Revelation Sunday turned up in the film One for the Money. The band has kept releasing music well into the 2020s, with Return of the Wheel arriving in 2022, showing no signs of slowing down.
