Theon Cross plays the tuba like most people wouldn't think possible, weaving it through jazz, afrobeat and experimental electronic sounds with a physicality that puts him at the centre of London's most forward thinking music scene. As a core member of Sons of Kemet and through his own projects, he has built a reputation for making the tuba feel urgent and essential rather than a novelty. Collaborators across his career have included Moses Boyd, Nubya Garcia, Jon Batiste, Emeli Sandé and Makaya McCraven, a range that says a lot about where he sits across genres. His solo catalogue runs from the 2015 EP Aspirations through to the 2019 album Fyah and his 2021 sophomore record Intra I, each one pushing further into his own sound. More recently he has been performing live at venues like Blue Note New York, with recordings of tracks such as Wings surfacing in 2025.
