About
Also known as: Totto, トト
Few bands have their fingerprints on as many classic records as Toto. Before they even released their debut, the core members were session heavyweights backing Steely Dan, Boz Scaggs, and plenty of others, which gave their 1978 self titled debut an almost uncanny polish. "Hold the Line" cracked the top five and got them on the map, but it was Toto IV in 1982 that made them a genuine global phenomenon. "Africa" hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and "Rosanna" landed at number two, and the album swept the Grammys that year. Over 50 million records sold later, they have kept releasing music and touring through lineup changes, hiatuses, and tragedy, including the death of drummer Jeff Porcaro in 1992. Steve Lukather is the last original member still actively on the road with the band, and their final studio album was Old Is New in 2018.
