Weezer built their reputation on one of the most beloved debuts of the 1990s, the Blue Album, a record that crammed geeky humor, massive hooks and a knack for power pop into something nobody else sounded like at the time. The Spike Jonze video for 'Buddy Holly', which spliced the band into Happy Days footage, became an MTV phenomenon and won four VMAs, and 'Buddy Holly' itself landed on Rolling Stone's 500 Best Songs of All Time. Their follow up, Pinkerton, flopped commercially but grew into a cult classic and is now considered by many to be their finest work. Over the decades Weezer have refused to stay in one lane. They moved from hard rock on Maladroit to orchestral pop on OK Human, dropped a surprise covers album in 2019 (yes, that Africa cover with Weird Al), and released SZNZ, a four part mini album series tied to the seasons, in 2022. Rivers Cuomo, Patrick Wilson, Brian Bell and Scott Shriner have sold over 35 million records worldwide, and the band keeps adding to that tally with no signs of slowing down.
