Wende is a Dutch singer, performer and theatre maker whose work refuses to sit still in one genre. Her music rubs up against electronics, chanson, theatre and performance art, and the same song can take on a completely different shape from one night to the next. She released her debut in 2003 and has since built a career where albums, stage productions and pop venue shows feed into each other constantly. Along the way she picked up Edison awards across multiple categories and received a Gouden Kalf nomination, with her work reaching audiences both in the Netherlands and abroad. The album Sterrenlopen is a good example of how she operates: it entered the Dutch album charts at number 2 and featured collaborations with Froukje and S10. Just as striking as the results, though, is her approach to making them. Wende treats the creative process itself as part of the work, deliberately leaving room on stage for doubt, change and experimentation rather than presenting a locked down finished product.
