The Smashing Pumpkins are playing Nova Rock 2027, a week before Pinkpop. Will the band return to the Netherlands for the first time since 2007?

The Smashing Pumpkins have been confirmed for Nova Rock 2027. The Austrian festival in Nickelsdorf takes place a week before Pinkpop 2027, which immediately raises the question of whether the alternative rock band from Chicago will also be seen in the Netherlands.
According to reports, the online music platform Britishrock has revealed a new batch of names for Nova Rock. The Smashing Pumpkins are the headliner of the second festival day. Faith No More and Die Toten Hosen close the Friday and the Wednesday respectively, and Die Ärzte are the closing act of the final festival day. Nothing But Thieves, Evanescence and Slash ft Myles Kennedy are also making the trip to Nickelsdorf, among others.
For Dutch festival rumor mills, the booking is an interesting one. So far the band has only been confirmed for Nova Rock 2027, but a single show in Austria seems like slim pickings for a trip across the Atlantic. That suggests more European festival dates will follow, and Pinkpop quickly comes into the picture. The Smashing Pumpkins have played the festival in Landgraaf several times before, but their last visit was back in 2007.
Bospop in Weert would also be a good fit for the band, according to the reports. That festival has been booking younger headliners for a few years now and is clearly aiming for bigger names than it used to. Last year, the festival director said in an interview that the bands that played Pinkpop should come to Bospop. Whether either of those two Limburg festivals lands The Smashing Pumpkins, or whether the band opts for an indoor show again like last time, is not yet clear.
So Dutch fans will have to wait and see. For now it's speculation, and the official Nova Rock announcement shows that not all of the confirmed names are presented there as headliners.
