About
A Nocte Temporis is a young ensemble from Leuven that digs into forgotten French baroque music and plays it with real conviction. It was founded by Reinoud Van Mechelen, who also conducts and sings. His speciality is the haute contre, the high tenor voice that French baroque composers wrote for, and it suits the operas of Lully and Marais very well. The group has built a name quickly, and its recordings of Bach and Charpentier drew glowing reviews. Repertoire like Marais's tragedy Alcide, which grew out of the world of his old teacher Lully, shows what the ensemble is about: rediscovering stage works from the French tradition and giving that distinctive high voice the spotlight it once had.
