About

French cellist Astrig Siranossian plays with a kind of authority that's hard to ignore, and her instrument is part of the story: a Ruggieri cello from 1676, on loan from the Boubo Music Foundation in Switzerland. Her recordings for Claves Records have drawn serious attention, particularly a 2018 disc pairing cello concertos by Khachaturian and Penderecki with the Sinfonia Varsovia, which picked up five Diapasons, five Classica stars, and the Clef du mois ResMusica Award. She has performed at some of the most respected venues around, from the Philharmonie de Paris and Musikverein in Vienna to the Kennedy Center in Washington and Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires. Her 2016 album brought together works by Poulenc, Fauré, and Komitas alongside pianist Théo Fouchenneret, showing a range that moves comfortably between French repertoire and Armenian musical heritage. A former artist in residence at the Chapelle Musicale Reine Elisabeth in Waterloo, Siranossian has also won a string of prizes including the Antonio Janigros Music Contest and a first prize at the Penderecki Competition.
