About
Also known as: beatalica, ビータリカ
Beatallica takes one of the sillier ideas in rock and commits to it completely: songs that are part Beatles, part Metallica, played metal style. Think "And Justice for All My Loving" or "I Want to Choke Your Band", where the lyrics slip between the two originals, or ignore both for jokes about heavy metal, blood and glam metal. The melodies stay Beatles, the riffs and solos lean on Metallica. It started in 2001 in Milwaukee with a small EP made for a local concert, then got a life of its own once a fan put the songs online. Since then the band has released albums like Sgt. Hetfield's Motorbreath Pub Band and Masterful Mystery Tour, played festivals across the world and shared stages with Motörhead, Testament, Kreator and Sepultura. Mike Portnoy even sat in on drums once. Metallica themselves have been friendly about the whole thing, and Kirk Hammett's verdict was simply "I think it's cool."
