Cancer Bats have built their reputation on a ferocious blend of hardcore punk and southern rock that hits harder than most bands dare to try. The Toronto quartet have seven studio albums to their name, from the raw aggression of their 2006 debut Birthing the Giant through to Psychic Jailbreak in 2022, and they've covered serious ground along the way, from festival stages at Reading, Leeds and Download to a Kerrang! cover and a five K review for Hail Destroyer. That second album also pulled in guest vocals from Tim McIlrath of Rise Against and Ben Kowalewicz of Billy Talent, which gives you a sense of the circles they run in. Beyond their main output, they have a whole alter ego as Bat Sabbath, a Black Sabbath tribute project that started as a one off after party set at Sonisphere Festival in 2011 and grew into something bigger. Liam Cormier is the only original member still standing, with the current lineup rounding out around him. Their cover of the Beastie Boys track Sabotage is a fan favourite and a good entry point if you want to hear what they do with a song that isn't their own.
