Named after a newspaper headline about Mario Lemieux returning to the NHL, Comeback Kid have been one of Canada's most consistent hardcore punk exports since forming in Winnipeg in 2001. What started as a side project between former Figure Four members Andrew Neufeld and Jeremy Hiebert grew into a full time touring machine, burning through stages across North America, Europe, South East Asia, and Latin America. Their sound sits in the harder end of melodic hardcore, all driving riffs and ragged urgency, and it has stayed remarkably focused across seven studio albums. The band hit a stride with Wake the Dead in 2005 and never really let up. Later records like Symptoms and Cures, Die Knowing, and Outsider kept sharpening that formula, and their 2022 album Heavy Steps proved they had no interest in coasting. In 2024 they dropped the EP Trouble via SharpTone Records, showing the band is still very much active and restless. Two of their songs even turned up in a 2016 Brazilian novel, which says something about the reach hardcore can have when a band does it right.
