About
Cancer are one of those British death metal acts who helped define the genre before most people even knew what to call it. Formed in a pub in Ironbridge, Shropshire, back in 1988, they put out three genuinely ferocious early albums on Vinyl Solution, with Death Shall Rise landing at number 27 on Terrorizer's all time top 40 death metal records. That album even got banned in Germany over its cover art, which is the kind of notoriety that money can't buy. They recorded with Scott Burns at Morrisound, pulled in Glen Benton of Deicide for backing vocals, and toured relentlessly with the likes of Obituary and Deicide. After breaking up twice and a reunion in 2013, Cancer signed to Peaceville Records and released Shadow Gripped in 2018, their first studio album in thirteen years. They kept the momentum going with Inverted World, released in April 2025, showing the band still very much has a pulse after nearly four decades in the game.
