About
Also known as: Cecile Mclorin Salvant
Cécile McLorin Salvant has won the Grammy for Best Jazz Vocal Album three times, for For One to Love, Dreams and Daggers and The Window, and she regularly tops DownBeat critics polls. Wynton Marsalis once said you get a singer like her once in a generation or two. She sings mostly in English and French, but she has also recorded in Occitan and Haitian Kreyòl. She describes her sound as jazz and blues with touches of folk and musical theatre, and she's known for turning well worn standards inside out with a mischievous intelligence, as The Guardian put it. Her 2023 album Mélusine retells a European folk legend, mostly in French and Haitian Creole. Her latest, With Every Breath I Take, is her first orchestral record, made with arranger Darcy James Argue and the Metropole Orkest.
