Clipse built their reputation on a sound so sharp and specific it earned its own genre tag: coke rap. The Virginia Beach duo, brothers Pusha T and Malice, came up through The Neptunes connection, with Pharrell Williams signing them to his Star Trak imprint in 2001. Their debut Lord Willin' went gold and produced two Billboard Hot 100 top 40 hits, "Grindin'" and "When the Last Time", tracks that still hold up as some of the most precise rap production of the early 2000s. The follow up Hell Hath No Fury, fully produced by The Neptunes, arrived in 2006 after years of label drama with Jive Records, and critics rated it even higher than the debut. Clipse also ran their own Re Up Records imprint alongside the extended crew Re Up Gang. They wrapped the classic era with Til the Casket Drops in 2009, then went on an extended hiatus before reuniting to release Let God Sort Em Out in 2025, which hit number 4 on the Billboard 200.
