DZ Deathrays are a dance punk trio out of Brisbane who have been making a genuinely enjoyable racket since the late 2000s. Shane Parsons, Lachlan Ewbank and Simon Ridley have put out six studio albums, starting with Bloodstreams in 2012, which won the ARIA Award for Best Hard Rock or Heavy Metal Album and earned a Pitchfork review calling it "more than worth going deaf to." Their third album, Bloody Lovely, peaked at number four on the ARIA Charts and featured a music video with original Wiggle Murray Cook, which is exactly the kind of wonderfully weird flex you'd expect from them. Over the years they've shifted from trash party noise punk into something with a bit more depth and texture, though the energy never really dips. Tracks like "Shred for Summer" and "Like People" show a band comfortable enough to write a genuine earworm without losing their edge. Recent uploads suggest they are still very much active, with new material surfacing as recently as 2023.
