Freya Ridings has a knack for making a ballad feel both intimate and enormous. The London singer and songwriter first turned heads with "Lost Without You", a slow burn soul ballad that crept into the UK top ten after it soundtracked a summer of Love Island in 2018. Her self titled debut album followed, with "Castles" becoming her international breakthrough and a live set on the John Peel Stage at Glastonbury cementing her reputation as a performer who can hold a crowd. She came back after a three year recording gap with "Weekends" in January 2023, ahead of her second studio album Blood Orange. Around the same time she co wrote and performed "Rise" for the animated film Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken, and her single "I Can't Hear It Now" turned up in season two of the League of Legends series Arcane, introducing her to a whole new audience.
