Few rock bands have pulled off what Heart managed: breaking through in the mid 1970s with a sound that blended heavy, Zeppelin esque guitar work with genuine folk tenderness, driven by Ann Wilson's powerhouse voice and Nancy Wilson's versatile guitar playing. Tracks like "Barracuda", "Crazy on You" and "Magic Man" made them a force on rock radio, and their debut Dreamboat Annie went platinum after a famously scrappy rise that included an overnight flight from the West Coast to open for Rod Stewart in Montreal. After a commercial dip in the early 1980s following major lineup changes, Heart came roaring back with slick, radio ready hits including "What About Love", "These Dreams" and "Alone", proving they could reinvent themselves without losing their audience. With over 50 million records sold worldwide and a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction in 2013, the Wilson sisters remain the band's beating core, and their live performance of "Stairway to Heaven" at the Kennedy Center Honors became one of the most talked about moments in recent rock history.
