About
Also known as: Josh Idehen
Joshua Idehen defies easy categorisation. The UK poet, philosopher and songwriter treats music as an outlet for existential anxiety, but wraps that weight in dancefloor energy and dry humour. His sound sits somewhere between spoken word and club music, driven by house beats and a sharp political wit. On his viral track Mum Does The Washing, he breaks down every major political ideology using a single domestic scenario, a mother doing the laundry, and somehow makes it feel both hilarious and urgent. His debut album, titled I Know You're Hurting, Everyone Is Hurting, Everyone Is Trying, You Have Got To Try, was made together with Swedish collaborator Ludvig Parment. It is a collection of club tracks carrying a message of love and solidarity, delivered without a hint of preachiness. He has performed at Glastonbury and made a strong impression at Eurosonic Noorderslag, building a following around music that uses the communal power of a dancefloor to say something genuinely meaningful.
