About
Also known as: Joy Oladokum
Joy Oladokun's song "I See America" made NPR's list of the 100 best songs of 2020, a fitting nod for a songwriter who doesn't shy away from big subjects. Her music moves between folk, R&B, rock and pop, and it's shaped by her identity as a queer person of color. "Sunday" is a good place to start, a warm, defiant song with a video full of queer couples, while "Who Do I Turn To?" and "Mercy" tackle her experience as a Black person in the United States. She's put out five studio albums so far, from the Kickstarter funded Carry to Observations from a Crowded Room in 2024. Her 2023 record Proof of Life brought in guests like Noah Kahan, Chris Stapleton, Manchester Orchestra and Mt. Joy. She's also opened for Hozier on his Unreal Unearth Tour, and "AM I?" got an official video in late 2024.
