Formed in Tampa, Florida, Kamelot built their reputation on richly layered power and progressive metal that draws on orchestral textures and ambitious concept work. Two of their most celebrated albums, Epica and The Black Halo, are rooted in Goethe's version of the Faust legend, and the band has consistently pushed the genre toward more cinematic territory. Norwegian vocalist Roy Khan was a defining voice across several albums, co writing with guitarist Thomas Youngblood until his departure in 2011. Swedish singer Tommy Karevik stepped in as lead vocalist, debuting on Silverthorn as both singer and co songwriter. Over the years Kamelot has racked up thirteen studio albums and built a reputation for pulling in impressive guest contributors, from Simone Simons on The Black Halo to Shagrath appearing in the March of Mephisto video. Their live DVD One Cold Winter's Night, filmed at the Rockefeller Music Hall in Oslo, gives a good sense of just how well their material translates to a big stage.
