About
Leoni Jansen spent years as one of Dutch television's most recognizable faces before walking away from it all to focus on music. Back in the eighties she hosted and presented a string of cultural and informational TV programmes, but the stage and the microphone eventually won out. She has sung for Nelson Mandela and at the wedding of Crown Prince Willem Alexander and Máxima, which gives you a sense of the kind of rooms she moves in. Her music ranges across American folk, Celtic and African sounds. Collaborating with singers like Niamh Parsons and Karine Polwart opened up the Celtic world for her, while a project with the Frères Guissé blended that with Senegalese music on the album Nina. Her double album Second Wind digs into songs she loved as a teenager, including material by Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell and Bob Dylan, alongside Celtic traditionals and two songs she wrote herself. She is also a director and has put together theatre concerts including Daughters of Africa and MasterPeace in Concert.
