Loyle Carner is the stage name of Benjamin Coyle Larner, a British rapper from Lambeth whose jazz inflected hip hop sits somewhere between confessional poetry and effortlessly cool head nodding music. His debut album Yesterday's Gone landed in 2017 to serious critical praise, with The Independent calling it album of the year, and earned him a Mercury Prize nomination that same year. A couple of Brit Award nods followed in 2018 for British Breakthrough Act and British Male Solo Artist. His second album Not Waving, but Drowning came out in April 2019, featuring collaborators like Jorja Smith, Tom Misch, and Jordan Rakei, and he has since kept building his reputation as one of the UK's most thoughtful rappers. His third album Hugo arrived in October 2022 to an average Metacritic score of 87 and another Mercury Prize nomination. Beyond music, he runs Chilli Con Carner, a cooking school for kids with ADHD, and has named songs after chefs Yotam Ottolenghi and Antonio Carluccio, which tells you pretty much everything about where his heart is.
