Masego, born Micah Davis, has carved out a genuinely singular space in contemporary music by blending saxophone, jazz sensibilities, and trap influences into what he calls "TrapHouse Jazz". That sound clicked into focus for a lot of people in 2017 when he and French artist FKJ dropped "Tadow", a track the two reportedly improvised shortly after meeting. It became the lead single on his 2018 debut album Lady Lady, which also featured SiR, Tiffany Gouché, and De' Wayne Jackson. His 2020 EP Studying Abroad and its extended version earned a Grammy nomination for Best Progressive R&B Album, a nod that made a lot of sense given how hard his music is to pin down. Cite Andre 3000 and Cab Calloway in the same breath as trap and you get the picture. His self titled album arrived in March 2023, showing he is still very much pushing that genre blurring approach forward.
