Cape Town singer songwriter Matthew Mole blends folk with electronica in a way that makes serious multi instrumental skills feel effortless. On stage he simultaneously handles guitar, synth, kick drum and triggered beats, which gives his live shows an energy that sits somewhere between intimate and full band. His 2013 debut album The Home We Built made him the first South African artist to hit number one on iTunes SA on release day, and his 2016 follow up Run repeated that feat within three months. The third album Ghost arrived in November 2019, leaning further into electronic territory. His song "Same Parts, Same Heart" landed on the soundtrack of the film Leading Lady, and his single "Run" went Gold in South Africa. The South African Music Awards named him Record of the Year winner in 2021, a solid confirmation that his brand of warm, melodic pop folk has found a genuine audience well beyond Cape Town.
