About
Michelle David is an American soul and gospel singer who has made the Netherlands her home base, and her group Michelle David & The True tones is one of the more genuinely soulful acts working out of that country. She built her reputation through years of stage work, including the Broadway musical Mama, I Want to Sing and gospel productions like Glory of Gospel, before putting down roots in Amsterdam. She also contributed background vocals for Diana Ross and Michael Bolton, which gives you a sense of the calibre she operates at. The True tones project has produced a run of Gospel Sessions volumes, and their 2022 album Truth & Soul marked a shift toward a rawer, more classic soul direction. Recent uploads like "Leave It There" and "Don't Give Up" show the band keeping that warm, rootsy energy alive on stage and in the studio.
