As a founding member of Beastie Boys, Mike D helped shape one of the most influential catalogs in hip hop history, from the diamond certified debut Licensed to Ill right through to Hot Sauce Committee Part Two. Beyond rapping, he has worn plenty of hats: co founding the Grand Royal Records label, signing acts like Luscious Jackson, and producing records for Portugal. The Man and UK punk duo Soft Play. After years of relative quiet following the death of Adam Yauch and the end of Beastie Boys, Mike D has stepped out as a solo artist under the name Mike D 5D. His debut solo single 'Switch Up' arrived in May 2026, followed quickly by 'What We Got' and 'True Colors', all building toward his first solo album Thank You, the first solo release from any former Beastie Boys member since the group stopped performing.
