Port Harcourt's Omah Lay built one of Afrobeats' most compelling recent runs off a pair of EPs that basically swept the Nigerian Apple Music charts. His 2020 debut EP Get Layd made history as the most streamed Nigerian record on Apple Music that year, with "Bad Influence" leading the charge and every track from the project landing in the top 15. He followed that immediately with What Have We Done, where "Godly" claimed the number one spot. His debut studio album Boy Alone arrived in 2022, featuring a collaboration with Justin Bieber on "Attention", and the deluxe version a year later pushed him past 1 billion streams on Spotify. More recently, his 2024 single "Holy Ghost" topped African streaming platforms with over 100 million streams, and a Martin Solveig remix gave it even more reach. He also runs his own music company, Boy Alone, cementing a level of creative control that matches his ambition.
