Persefone are one of the more unlikely success stories in heavy music: a progressive death metal band from the tiny nation of Andorra, blending blistering riffs with keyboards, piano, and acoustic guitar into sprawling concept albums. Their 2013 record Spiritual Migration and the 2017 follow up Aathma cemented their reputation for ambitious, spiritually charged songwriting, drawing collaborators like Paul Masvidal and Tim Charles from Ne Obliviscaris along the way. Their 2022 album Metanoia went even further, featuring guest appearances from Einar Solberg of Leprous, Angel Vivaldi, Steffen Kummerer, and Merethe Soltvedt, earning enthusiastic praise from outlets like Metal Injection. The band has never stood still lineup wise either. After longtime vocalist Marc Martins Pia stepped away in 2023 to focus on family, Persefone brought in Daniel R. Flys, known from Eternal Storm, and wasted no time getting back to work. Their first release with Flys, the EP Lingua Ignota: Part I, arrived in early 2024.
