About
Poppy Ackroyd builds entire sonic worlds out of just two instruments: the violin and the piano. The British composer and multi instrumentalist layers and multi tracks sounds from those two sources to create music that sits somewhere between ambient, contemporary classical and something altogether harder to pin down. Her debut album Escapement arrived in 2012, followed by Feathers in 2014, and her approach gradually opened up to include collaborators: Resolve brought in Manu Delago on hang, Jo Quail on cello, and Mike Lesirge on flute and clarinets. She also plays live as part of Hidden Orchestra, Joe Acheson's acclaimed live project. In 2017 she signed to One Little Independent Records, the label run by Björk, releasing the solo piano mini album Sketches before the full Resolve in 2018 and Pause in 2021. Recent uploads suggest she has been active with new material well into 2026.
