Few German metal bands can claim a 40 year run as relentlessly productive as Rage. Formed in Herne in 1984 by bassist and vocalist Peter "Peavy" Wagner, initially under the name Avenger, they grew into one of the defining acts of the German power metal scene, standing alongside Grave Digger, Helloween, and Running Wild in what fans call the scene's "big four." Their sound has always pushed boundaries, blending heavy and speed metal with progressive elements and, memorably, full orchestral arrangements. In 1996, Lingua Mortis made history as one of the first metal albums recorded with a live symphonic orchestra. The classic lineup featuring Manni Schmidt and Chris Efthimiadis delivered some of the band's most beloved records, including The Missing Link and the universally respected Black in Mind. Later, a trio lineup with Victor Smolski and Mike Terrana kept the momentum going through the 2000s. With 27 studio albums, over five million records sold, and more than 40 chart entries, Rage remain a genuine cornerstone of European heavy metal.
