About
Dutch jazz pianist Rembrandt Frerichs draws from a pretty wide pool of influences: the American jazz tradition, classical European music, and Arabic music, a passion he developed during two years spent living in Egypt. That blend shapes the work of his main ensembles, the Rembrandt Frerichs Trio and Levantasy, and has led to collaborations with the likes of Michael Brecker, Kayhan Kalhor, and Hossein Alizadeh. His debut album Self Portrait earned an Edison Award nomination, and 2014's A Long Story Short landed one too. Frerichs teaches jazz piano at the Conservatory of Tilburg and has been a guest teacher at the conservatories of Amsterdam, Rotterdam, and Utrecht. He also serves as artistic director for several cultural venues and festivals in the Netherlands. His discography stretches across more than a dozen releases, touching jazz, world music, and classical territory, with collaborators ranging from Iranian masters to classical ensembles.
