Tucker Pillsbury, the Maine born artist behind the ROLE MODEL project, built his initial fanbase almost entirely on the strength of a debut EP he recorded in his closet. That 2017 release, Arizona in the Summer, caught the ear of Mac Miller, who brought him out to Los Angeles, and Pillsbury has called that meeting the most pivotal moment of his life. Signed to Interscope shortly after, he spent the next few years releasing EPs through Interscope and Polydor before his debut album Rx landed in 2022. His second album, Kansas Anymore, dropped in 2024 and earned praise for his move toward a pop folk sound. A deluxe edition followed in early 2025 with the country tinged single Sally, When the Wine Runs Out, which picked up serious traction on TikTok and led to a memorable Saturday Night Live performance featuring a Charli XCX cameo. He also has a role coming in a Netflix rom com alongside Natalie Portman and Mark Ruffalo, so it is fair to say the project has grown well beyond bedroom pop.
