About

Ronald Brautigam has made a career out of going deep on the classical piano repertoire, and he does it on the instruments the composers actually knew. The Dutch pianist is particularly celebrated for his complete recordings of the solo piano works of Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven, all played on fortepiano replicas built by Paul McNulty. That attention to historical detail earned his Beethoven recordings both the Edison Award and the German Record Critics' Prize in 2015. Brautigam is also the person who reconstructed Beethoven's very first piano concerto, WoO4, written when the composer was just thirteen years old. Beyond solo work, he has a long standing partnership with violinist Isabelle van Keulen and has recorded with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra under Riccardo Chailly. He teaches at the Basel Music Academy and in 2024 he received the Edison Oeuvreprijs Klassiek, a lifetime achievement recognition in Dutch classical music.
