About
Also known as: Rose Tatto, Rosetatto
Few bands from the Sydney pub rock scene hit as hard as Rose Tattoo. Fronted by the unmistakable Angry Anderson and built around the fierce slide guitar work that became their calling card, the band carved out a reputation for raw, street level heavy blues that earned them fans across Australia, Europe and eventually the US underground. Their early singles like "Bad Boy for Love" and "Rock 'n' Roll Outlaw" were produced by Harry Vanda and George Young, the same team behind AC/DC, and the connection made sense: Rose Tattoo shared that same uncompromising, no frills attack. By the early 1980s they were making noise in Europe, with "Rock 'n' Roll Outlaw" peaking at number two in France and both that album and Assault and Battery topping the UK heavy metal chart. Their Reading Festival set became the stuff of legend. Guns N' Roses were among the converts, covering "Nice Boys" on their early live record. Rose Tattoo were inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2006, a recognition that was well overdue for one of Australian rock's most influential outfits.
