Salmo, born Maurizio Pisciottu in Olbia, Italy, built a reputation as one of the harder edged voices in Italian rap, blending hardcore hip hop with a relentless output that had him landing three number one albums and selling over three million copies at home. His 2013 album Midnite was the real breakthrough moment, debuting straight at the top of the Italian charts and spawning a string of video releases, including collabs with Noyz Narcos, Gemitaiz, MadMan, and Dutch horrorcore crew Dope D.O.D. He got his gold record certification that same year. Salmo has been a core part of the Machete Empire Records collective, appearing on multiple Machete Mixtape releases and producing a big chunk of the 2019 edition. His 2018 album Playlist showed a wider reach, pulling in guests like Fabri Fibra, Sfera Ebbasta, and Coez across 13 tracks. He followed that up in 2021 with Flop, an album he famously described as his worst record, though his fanbase had other ideas.
