Few British bands have stacked up a back catalogue quite like Simply Red. Built around the unmistakable voice of Mick Hucknall, the Manchester group have released thirteen studio albums, every single one of them landing in the UK top ten, with Stars, A New Flame, Life and Blue all hitting number one. Stars spent two years as the best selling album in Europe, and the band has shifted over 50 million records worldwide. Their run of hits is genuinely staggering: "Holding Back the Years" and "If You Don't Know Me by Now" both topped the US Billboard Hot 100, while "Fairground" gave them their one and only UK number one single. The blue eyed soul sound they refined through the late eighties and nineties, blending pop, funk and Philadelphia soul influences, became their signature. After calling it quits in 2010, they came back together in 2015, and have kept recording since, most recently releasing the studio album Time in 2023.
