About
Teen Mortgage started as a Craigslist connection and turned into one of D.C.'s more interesting punk acts. Guitarist and vocalist James Guile had already been running earlier versions of the project in Liverpool, opening for acts like Plague Vendor and Chastity, before relocating to Maryland and finding drummer Ed Barkauskas through a classified ad. Their band name comes from a piece in Banksy's Dismaland installation that skewered predatory lending aimed at kids and vulnerable people, which tells you something about where their heads are at. Their sound shifted from straight garage rock toward something heavier and stoner metal influenced over the years, documented across a handful of EPs before they signed to Roadrunner Records in 2024. Their debut album Devil Ultrasonic Dream landed in 2025, and they have shared stages with Weezer, the Smashing Pumpkins, and Alkaline Trio along the way. Their music has also turned up in placements for Vans and the TV series Shameless.
