About
Queensland's The Chats built their reputation on hilariously relatable songs about Australian life, delivered at breakneck punk rock speed. Their 2017 track "Smoko", shot on a building site with zero budget, went viral almost overnight and caught the ear of Dave Grohl, Iggy Pop, Josh Homme and Alex Turner. The band calls their sound "shed rock", which feels about right. Since then they have kept the momentum going with two studio albums. High Risk Behaviour landed at number 5 on the ARIA Charts in 2020, and its follow up Get Fucked debuted even higher at number 2 in 2022. Guitarist Josh Hardy replaced founding member Josh Price in late 2020, but the core energy of the band, driven by bassist and vocalist Eamon Sandwith and drummer Matt Boggis, has stayed firmly intact. They even popped up on The Metallica Blacklist charity album with a cover of "Holier Than Thou".
