Few bands capture the pure, unhinged energy of punk quite like Amyl and the Sniffers. The Melbourne four piece, fronted by the ferociously charismatic Amy Taylor, named themselves after slang for amyl nitrite, and Taylor's own description of their music says it all: like poppers, it lasts 30 seconds and then you have a headache. Their sound draws comparisons to Iggy and the Stooges and the Damned, while Taylor's own influences range wildly from Minor Threat and AC/DC to Dolly Parton and Cardi B. Their self titled 2019 debut earned strong reviews across the board and won the ARIA Award for Best Rock Album. The follow up, Comfort to Me, arrived in 2021, and by 2022 the band were opening for Green Day and Fall Out Boy across Europe. Their third album, Cartoon Darkness, landed in October 2024, with singles like "U Should Not Be Doing That" and "Big Dreams" showing the band in full stride. "Jerkin'", another cut from the record, landed them in the Triple J Hottest 100 for the first time.
