Few Eurovision winners have left a mark quite like Alexander Rybak. The Norwegian singer, violinist and songwriter took the 2009 contest in Moscow with "Fairytale", a tune he wrote himself drawing on Norwegian folk music, and scored 387 points, smashing the previous record by nearly 100 points and beating the runner up by 169. He was 23 at the time, making him the youngest solo male winner in the contest's history, and the only Belarusian born artist to have won it. Rybak performs in English, Russian and Norwegian, blending classical crossover, folk and pop into a sound that's distinctly his own. His debut album Fairytales charted in the top 20 across nine European countries, hitting number one in Norway and Russia. He went on to release No Boundaries and a Swedish language album before shifting toward children's and classical music, regularly performing with youth orchestras. He returned to Eurovision in 2018 representing Norway with "That's How You Write a Song", finishing 15th in the final.
