Ayra Starr announced herself to the world in a serious way when 'Rush' blew up in 2022, landing on charts in Switzerland, Ireland and the UK and scoring her a Grammy nomination for Best African Music Performance. Born Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, the Nigerian singer signed to Mavin Records after label founder Don Jazzy spotted an original song she posted on Instagram, and things moved fast from there. Her debut EP went straight to number one on Nigerian iTunes and Apple Music in 2021, and her debut album 19 & Dangerous followed that same year, with lead single 'Bloody Samaritan' becoming the first song by a solo female artist to hit the top spot on the TurnTable Top 50. Her sound sits at the crossroads of afrobeats, neo soul and alternative R&B, with a knack for mixing vulnerability with swagger. The second album, The Year I Turned 21 (2024), digs into self discovery, love and grief, and features a stacked guest list including Giveon, with whom she also released the music video for 'Last Heartbreak Song'. The collaboration 'Santa' with Rvssian and Rauw Alejandro made her the first Nigerian female artist to reach 20 million monthly listeners on Spotify.
