About
Cedric Burnside carries serious blues royalty credentials as the grandson of R. L. Burnside, but he has built a reputation that stands entirely on its own terms. Rooted in the raw, hypnotic sound of Mississippi hill country blues, he works as a guitarist, drummer, singer and songwriter, and his 2018 album Benton County Relic earned him a Grammy nomination for Best Traditional Blues Album. He went one better with I Be Trying, which won that same Grammy category in 2022, and in 2021 he received the National Heritage Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts, the highest US government honour in folk and traditional arts. Over the years he has collaborated with a wide cast of musicians, from Lightnin' Malcolm on the Blues Music Award winning Two Man Wrecking Crew to Bernard Allison and members of Widespread Panic. His drumming has also earned repeated Blues Music Awards in the Instrumentalist category. Recent uploads suggest he has kept busy with tracks like "Step In" and "I Be Trying", showing he is nowhere near done.
